How am i doing?

Hey, i just found this forum.. im currently 16 years old and have been producing since i was about 13. I have been web designing to fund my studio... and i would like to know how im doing

The equipement i currenty have... usual budget stuff for a teenager...

and that pretty much sums it all up... tell me what you think would be worth investing in... maybe something to reduce noise in my bedroom as i have awefull noise from my PC and amp's when recording...

Hello technominds and welcome to the board. Well, to be truthfull, the equipment list, although extensive for a 16 year old, tells us nothing. The APPROVAL you seek is in the pudding. Your recordings are the proof by which your clientel select your services. Are you satisfied with your recordings? Are you experiencing any sonic anomolies that detract from your quality? Are your clients satisfied, or is your space hard to work in? Those types of questions are really determines "how you are doing". I meet people all the time who simply collect gear, but NEVER record.

Why would you want or need Logic, Sonar and Cubase?

delete your sofware, and either buy it or get n-tracks studio

then, get a new mic

The big thing I've had to face is that it is easier to buy gear/software than it is to improve my technical chops. I've deliberately held off on new purchases while I work on learning more and using what I have to fuller effect.

Something like Tracktion has more capabilities than the rest of your equipment -- the keys of learning HOW to really use EQs, reverbs, compressors, gates, etc. are the crucial ones.

Yes, you probably should work on silencing your PC and other equipment. Ideally one of the best materials is rigid fiberglass, but for the high frequency sounds coming from this kind of equipment, lots of things will work. Even some moving blankets thrown over a frame of PVC pipe would help to knock down the noise.

Thanks for the welcome. The software isnt moving I earnt all the money for the stuff from web designing.. it amounts to about £5,000 i think... my recordings are great and since i got my Penta.. even better... but im still getting noise from all the machines in my room... and cant think of a place for a vocal booth... whats so good about tracktion? I currently use Fruity Loops for my music... seem to be getting really professional results... although Fruity is known for tacky crap... using it with decent soundfonts and sampletank seems to work very well.... what benifits will changing my sequencer have?

In reply to this, Sonar seems brilliant for recording vocals... much better than anything else ive found... moving chopping fading and adding my VST's about in there seem so simple and effortless.. and my UC-33e works very well with it... I wanted to learn Logic and Cubase cause it is so commonly used in other studio's... and out of interest i wanted to learn how to use them too...
