Testing out my new gear!
I got an early Christmas present! New Dell super fast computor, Samson Resolv 65a studio monitors and an Emu 0404 sound card. So I wanted to see if it would make a difference in my mixing.
This is a guitar piece called "into the sun". I recorded this really fast but wanted to mix on my new monitors. Let me know what you think of the sound. I'm still experimenting but wanted to know what some of your first impressions would be. http://www.ruthsharpmusic.com/mp3.htm |

Atleast you could tell it was rain. I added a little artistic imagery at the beginning, (bored on a rainy day, fun with microphones). Maybe I need some birds chirping at the end to complete it? Is my EQ tight enough?

Catchy stuff tho... I was tempted to lay down a quick drum track to it while it was playing ![]()

If you feel the urge to add drums. DO IT! I've never heard any of my music with drums and I'll see what I can do with the pick noise.

nice touch there guy. New card sounds clean and transparent. I have been curious to hear stuff done on one of them.

That's fantastic! It really adds to the drive of the song. I've never heard any of my music with percussion. It adds a whole new feeling! I love it!

Sounds like we have collaborative opportunity here. Bass anyone? Or even a sad sounding cello.

Go for it! Just let me know who did what, just in case I use it on a future CD.

The only thing I do not like about the 65a's is that the bass is week when I mix RnB style music. For light to hard rock I like them. |

Hopefully you'll give me a chance to polish that drum track up a bit first... lol Seriously, that's a great song you have going there... If you are serious about wanting some permanent percussion schtuffs, I'd be happy to help out... ![]()

I would be thrilled to have a drum track if you feel like making one.
I used a Fostex MR8 with a SM57 mic, mixed in cakewalk XL. I recorded two guitar tracks and panned about 40% left and right. I added some Parametric EQ and that's it. So far, I have loved the 65a's, I did not get the sub but will later. This is my first pair of studio monitors. Previously I used some headphones and I think the 65a's will make a huge difference in my mixing(which is what I have been waiting for). I do think they are lacking a little in the bass end but I mostly do acoustic guitar and vocals so it doesn't make that much difference. |

Hi GH,
I enjoyed the track. Crisp playing, good recording. But I felt I was hearing a backing track waiting for the lead to show up. You play a nice "bed" here, and I hear Irish ballad influences and such, but, I get two channels of what you might call 'ear candy', i.e. the accompaniment, and no lead vox, no lead guitar. I liked it, just wish there was more. Best, CC |

I completely agree. I'm not that great with lead guitar yet, especially with an alternative tuning like this one. I haven't settled on any lyric because I liked the music so much, kinda wanted to keep it instrumental.

nice !
It sounds overall a tad dark, might ad a bit if 10-14 k-ish Acoustic recorded with a SM57 ? I think the 10/07/04 version is best Remco
