The A-8 is one of Fostex's oldest decks so finding one in decent condition and with low mileage on the heads and other transport parts may prove difficult at this stage of the game.

The R-8 would be a better deck in that it is at least 10 years newer a model with faster recording speed of 15 ips and a number of improvements in the transport's logic, search and sync capabilities.

I used to own an R-8 myself and was impressed with it's performance but opted to go for a TASCAM 38 as it used 1/2 inch tape for the 8 tracks where the Fostex used 1/4 inch and sounded a bit thin to my fussy ears.

Cheers!

Thanks for the repy. Well, I've found a Fostex A-8 for dirt cheap with the remote and in unbelievable condition!! The heads even look to be in good shape. This unit was well taken care of. I do not have any info on it though. I do know that it is a 15 IPS recorder though.
