Mastering your Audio with Br-1600Cd

Does anyone have and tips or tricks regarding mastering audio with the
Boss Br-1600 CD ?

Does anyone care to comment on any of the Presets they give you ?

ie: Do you use them ?
Do you tweak them and then use them ?

(I bought this thing so I can Track then Mix then Master easily, however, my ears don't know what a decent home mastering job would sound like).

Cool

The Mastering tool kit is very nice and easy to use .You first mixdown to a stereo track on 9/10 then run your mix through the mastering tool kit while rerecording it as your mastered track which you then burn to a CD.I've only used the presets so far but they really pump up the CD mix.You can turn the tool kit on and off to hear what it sounds like before you mix.You have to watch the levels and use your ears to set it right but it really makes a hotter CD.

I do know how to use it...

I just don't know what sounds good.

What presets have you liked ?
What is the most generic mastering pre-set ?

I suggest that you take your favorite recording, pick a song, put the CD in the BR-1600's CD and listen to it with the speakers that you plan to record with, this will give you a reference song. After you record your song, you can dial thru the mastering presets to find a match to your reference song. Just trust your ears.

Cool

The names on the presets are pretty much self explanatory just like the name that's how you would apply the patch. Like I recorded my band at a gig and used "P003 LIVE MIX"and it really brought out the drums and bass from my live recording. POP MIX and DANCE MIX are also nice, while something like P019 PHONE VOX is just for a special effect.Just run your mixes through it and play around with it and burn some CD's and listen to them on different media (car, home, friend's systems, etc.)

The rock preset usually really sounds good on the tracks I end up with after mixing down.

Thanks Funk Daddy.

Do you modify it, or leave it exactly as it is ?

The 'Brighten' master patch is good one, if your mix sounds too muddy.
