Newbie question regarding wurlitzer organ/Rotating Speaker

Hello.
Upon opening up my recently purchased Wurlitzer 4060, I discovered a small rotary speaker with the motor buzzing away, but no belt to turn the speaker (the rubber belt was back there, but broken). The organ switches to the rotatry speaker when the "spectra tone" button is pressed. Is it possible to rig this little thing up to vary the speed of the motor?

My knowledge of these instruments is quite limited, but what would a dual speed motor, if properly placed, work in this type of organ? And if so, how would one regulate the speed of the motor? Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Yes you could install a dual speed motor. You would need to install a new switch for the speed selection, which brings me to this point: Keep the motor you have and wire in a motor controller circuit (Basically just resistors for voltage control, a handful of capacitors and, some EMI filters. Similar to the basic controls in your car that operate the various speeds for your heater fan (Usually also a single stage motor). There are leslie kits available to do the same thing, but not knowing the size of your motor, I'd bet they would be too large. I have schematics around here somewhere for motor controllers, I'll dig 'em out and forward you a copy. My guess is you could do this for around $20 bucks or so at Radioshack (Maybe a little more if you need to purchase things like Soldering Gun, Solder, Flux, Wire, etc. All things you should have around anyways).

Atterion,

Thanks for your response. I would in fact be very interested in this modification. I'm kinda new to this type of thing, but it would be very cool to "bling" this organ out and learn how it ticks while I'm at it. You can forward the schematics and additional information to irishfiddle@hotmail.com. Just so you know, the motor is universal electric, 75A, 117V 60 cy. I also just ordered the service/owner manuals and the rotary speaker belt. thanks again.

Ahh, I see. AC motor (I would have sent you DC plans, big difference). Very good. I'll dig out some AC plans tonight.

I live to Retrofit!!!
It's truly the best, when you can take something and make it unique, even though it usually takes away from resale value, if it adds practicallity who cares.

Why don't you just install a new belt?

Sorry K for not getting back to you sooner. I've been bombarded with visiting relatives for the last week or so. Tis the season!!!!
I have those plans, I just gotta remember which box they are in (They're in storage). As soon as I get em. I'll pass em along.
