Universal Shock Mounts.
Has anyone used one of these? http://www.tensimount.com/ They are cheap enough, I just wonder if they work well. I'd like to get enough to do a drum kit with. I think it would make a big difference if I could get rid of most of the stand noise.

I'm sure it would work fine. How are you micing the drums to make stand noise an issue?

Isn't stand noise always an issue? If it's not, why then do they always use a shock mount when tracking vocals? There's alot less motion/pounding/vibrations when cutting a vocal track, no? When you have someone pounding on the drums, there will be vibrations transmitted through the stand and into the mic.

Well, anyone else? Reasons not to use them? Complete waste of time?

Vocals are normally a lot quieter than drums and some sigers tap thier foot on the mic stand base. Drum mics also tend to have internal shock mounting to isolate the capsule from the body of the mic and stand. If you are using mics that were not intended for drums ( AT 4033's for example), the shock mounts might be a good idea. Otherwise, unless you are really having an audible problem (in which case you might need to hit the drums harder), I wouldn't bother.

So you're telling me that sm57/md421 have internal shock mounts? If they don't, then they are not intended for drums?

Are you actually having a problem with mic stand noise?

If you think it is a big deal and worth the extra money, go for it. I have never run into this problem. With all the rumblings and thunder coming off of a drumset, this was always the least of my worries.
