MIDI/N-Tracks/Audiophile 2496 setup

Hey, would anyone be able to help me setup MIDI for n-tracks w/ the Audiophile 2496 card?

Admittedly, I've never done MIDI before. I've just been recording acoustic guitar and vox for a couple of years, but figured it was time to try it out.

As of now, I've got the MIDI cable out from my keyboard into the MIDI in of the 2496. From there, I'm a little lost as to what to do in N-tracks? Can I listen to the MIDI through the same methods as the regular audio I've recorded through the regular outs of the Audiophile into my monitors or is some additional routing necessary? As you can see I am very new to this. I plan on getting Drumkit From Hell and programming drums eventually. Thanks very much.

Get another midi cable and plug it from the midi out of the Audiophile to the midi in of your keyboard.

Then, and this is important, go to the utility page inside your keyboard and turn the "Local" or "Local Control" to off. This breaks the connection between the keyboard and the sounds inside.

If the keyboard you are using is multi-timbral, meaning capable of putting out more than one sound on more than one midi channel, the secret to getting the second instrument going is to change the midi channel the keyboard is transmitting on.

For example, if you have a piano part on track one in n-track playing on midi channel 1 in the keyboard, switching the keyboard midi channel to 2 and going to the next track in n-track should allow you to add the strings, bass, drums or whatever sound you pick.
