Getting the most out of a VST mix?

I'm using VST and have very few plugins. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on developing a good mix? any plugin recommendations?

Here's a great article about creating a good mix. He's using Cakewalk, but it can easily be applied to Cubase or any other software.
