Delta 1010 and what?

hey guys,
I recently bought a Delta1010, and installed it. Just added my monitors (Fostex PM1). I disabled the crappy soundcard on my motherboard, but am considering getting something better than crap, but not huge bucks to playback my mix through computer speakers, just to test it. (Will also go through stereo, mp3 player, car, etc.), but want to be able to reference more than just my PM1s.

Aside from Sound Blasters, anyone got any decent suggestions for a mid-level soundcard? Don't need 5.1 or any of that crap, just a basic 2 channel soundcard.

thanks.

i dont see technically why you need another sound card.
you could use a switch box to switch between various monitors. unless i'm missing something.

Right, I could do that using the professional soundcard. That's a given.
But I want to monitor using something basic that normal joe schmo's will be using. So that I can make sure it sounds good on an average computer, rather than something specific to recording.

Know what I mean?

Wouldn't your average Joe Shmoe have a Soundblaster or something similar?
Or the onboard sound.

I'm confused, you have already have a soundcard in the 1010 why do you want another one?

<edit> didn't see your reply to the other poster.

I use a 1010 and don't bother with the hassles of trying to run a soundlblaster or some other POS in the same box. I check my mixes on home stereo's, car steroes and PC's using headphones and occasionally a PC with speakers. I get plenty of feedback that way. This is just how I do it and I guess I just don't want to screw around with soundblaster's.

I suppose you're right. But I'm anti-Soundblaster. I used to work for Creative, and their products really are crap.

I'm just curious if there's anything comparable to it, that people are using, is all.

It is not common practice to playback your mix through as many venues as possible? ie. stereo, computer speakers, car, mp3 player. To get the best mix, so that anyone listening to it will get a decent sound?

If I just mix it, and play it through my 1010, it might sound great. But on a less professional set up, it may sound like shit.

See my logic?

I suggest heading down to your local CompUSA
And getting any cheapo soundcard they have there.

Yes it's good to test on as many systems as possible...
Though I think you'd get the same effect
By simply changing out the speakers on the Delta
Rather than using a different soundcard.

I'm game to try anything possible. I'll most likely hook up any speakers I have to my mixer, through a switch. Just to test every medium.

I guess I'll just go to a store, and say "gimme whatever you got, that isn't a Soundblaster"

Thanks guys.

I think buying another soundcard to test your mixes on is a waste of your money. Testing the mix on a stereo, a boombox, cans, in a car, and on pc setup using different speaker combos is more than adequate.

I see where you're going with this ... but I think it's a but of a red herring. You're more likely to confuse your system and get mixed up between cards. Just burn to CD-R and keep trying it out on other sources. Keep your PC clean and optimal for recording performance.
