Emagic AMT-8 & OMS... HELP!

I am trying to establish basic communication with Cubase VST 4.1 using the AMT-8 (w/USB and OMS 2.3.8) on a Mac G4 (OS 9.2). I installed the drivers and set up OMS as described. All the ports are recognized and test correctly in OMS setup, but when I use Cubase VST 4.1, there is no MIDI output to the assigned channel. The MIDI meters flash red to indicate that it is receiving, but there is no simultaneous output (as indicated in green). The communication with MIDI modules seems fine in Sound Diver where the interface uses AMT instead of OMS. Is this an AMT-8 hardware issue or an OMS problem? I'm leaning more towards OMS or Cubase. If it is indeed an OMS or Cubase issue, can anyone advise an alternate method, driver or installation routine?

Update: When I uninstalled my M-Audio Delta 66 ASIO drivers in cubase, the damn thing worked flawlessly! wtf?!!! The audio drivers and Unitor USB drivers do not seem to want to cooperate. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have to find some way for the two to get along. I can't just switch between turning off ASIO while using MIDI and vice versa. Doesn't seem like a solution. Any suggestions?

Update 2: Okay NOW this is getting strange. Not to mention the fact that I am basically having a conversation with myself at this point... C'mon guys, any takers on this? There has to be some Mac/MIDI experts on here, or is this mainly a PC forum? Here's what went down: I managed to get the AMT-8 to respond when I reinstalled Cubase. Everything was great UNTIL I loaded my ASIO drivers for my M-Audio Delta 66 card. What I found is that the AMT-8 works fine in OMS (MIDI ins and outs are all responsive), but when you load up the ASIO driver AND enable a channel to record (ie. after setting up a folder to save audio files in), it all falls apart. For some reason ASIO and the AMT/OMS work okay ONLY up to the point I target a folder to save files into, then it goes into the same problem I mentioned above (MIDI in BUT no out). This is just bonkers. I have never had this many problems when I used a simple 2IN/2OUT Motu interface... ANYONE have ANY ideas? Would bypassing USB by using a third party serial card (Gport) solve anything? Does this sound like a conflict between USB and my soundcard? Would using a serial device bypass this altogether?
