M-Audio Mobile Pre + Cool Edit?

Hey guys, stupid newbie here.

Here's the deal. I'm about to get a new top of the line notebook (Win XP Pro) for xmas and was checking out the M-Audio Mobile Pre.

All I want to really do is mess around in my room doing some recording.

Will the mobile pre work with Cool Edit Pro? I'm slightly familiar with that and love the way it works. I was hoping I could lay down a guitar track, then play it back while listening through headphones and simultaneously laying down another guitar/mandolin/vocal/djembe/anything else track.

After having 2 tracks down, can I then listen to whats been laid down and add another track? I've had a long day so I apologize is this post is a little incoherent.

The plan was to get the M-Audio Mobile Pre, an almost-decent mic, and just mic the instruments. I wouldn't see the need for a direct-in except for maybe my acoustic/electric bass.

This setup would cost me about $225 from musicians friend and it would turn my bedroom into what I would consider a dream studio.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,

If you re-read your post, I think you will see that you have answered your own questions. Yes, that set up will work with Cool Edit, or any number of programs out there. You can record and playback to overdub or lay other tracks or whatever.
