Problem with importing MIDI

Hey everyone, I'm new here and to the recording issue. I'm using CEP 1.2, and it really bugs me that it doesn't contain a built in metronome. so what I thought I would do is to create a metronome track in MIDI and then import it into the session. Problem is that when I try to import MIDI files it brings up a dialog box who says "Raw Data (no header)" and when I press OK it imports a short Track of loud and high-pithced noise. can anyone help me?

I don't care hearing any suggestions, but there are only 2 problems:
-Freeware only - no cracks or anything illegal please
-I'm in the middle of a HUGE project in Cool Edit and there's absolutely no way i'm changing programs before the end of this project.

Another possibility is if there's a free program which converts MIDI files into WAV files or anything like that. I've tried to fined one but I haven't found out anything.

no. i'm a computer engr, and i highly respect my fellow engrs who create programs and computer hardware technology and their need to earn a living.
all my software is properly paid for and registered.
when you get the time look at this. it will address some of the missing functionality in cool which i consider a fine audio pgm. the two together , you will have a powerhouse recording solution.
it has a slew of midi functionality. its not free. but very cheap.

peace.

Well, Cool Edit can play back a midi file, but you won't hear it unless you've got an hardware MIDI module hooked up to an interface.

But luckily, COOL EDIT has a metronome built right in, with adjustable time signatures and click sounds!

Just hit Options--> metronome, and adjust away. I've got the metronome window docked right by my VU meters, and I've found it very handy. Check out the help file for your options.

Oh, I see. My mistake. Do you have a hardware metronome? You could mic it up, or mine has a headphone jack, you could take a line out.

Im sure there are electronic metronomes for under $20 availible.

Good Luck
Chris
