home voice recording only

I am recording voice on my computer, using SB Live, a Nady SP5, and Goldwave 5.0. All very low-tech and low $$$. But I'm wondering how to get more power to my dynamic mic so that it records louder. Everything is boosted up to full and still only get low volume recording. Any ideas?

I would suggest that you look into an M-Audio AudioBuddy. And a better mic. Okay, okay, that's the gear snob coming out... look into an AudioBuddy. About $80.

I do not know anything about the SoundBlaster for recording, but it will be looking for either a line level or a mic level signal. Mic level signals are much weaker than line level signals. The AudioBuddy will take your mic signal and boost it to line level... I just don't know if the line level signal will cause your SoundBlaster grief or not.

Hopefully someone else will be able to advise.

plug your nady into the audio buddy, and go line input into live. NOT mic input.
i would also suggest you consider a yamaha mg mixer. instead of the audiobuddy. lots of folks like them.
or for no money plug the nady into an old cassette dek mic input and line out to line in of live card in pc. (youll need a 3 pin xlr to quarter inch male
connector convertor cable. as cassette dek mic ins have female quarter
inch inputs). you might want to check out some of the free tutorials
covering lots of digital audio techniques in the support section of pgmusic.com, and the faq's as well. some of them cover the live card. peace.
