Struggling with bass

The mix of my latest tune sounds OK on the Wharfedale monitors but when I play it in the car's casette player, it's suddenly woolier than a South Island shearing shed. The bass is flabby and all over the show.

This time it's not fighting with the kick which is cutting through really well.

Would maybe chopping it off at the knees below say 60Hz help? Any tips from you master mixologists?

I give the bass always a little lift around the 200Hz-300Hz. Small systems, like car radios will recognize this more than bass, because they often have to drop the lower frequencies.
