instrument set-up

Hi guys - Not sure if there's an easy answer but maybe you can point me to something I can read. Midi is confusing to me...

I use Jammer music creation software w the Roland VSC (sound canvas) for the sound source. Both are configured for GM, the VSC is also for GM2/GS...not sure if Jammer is? So there has been no need for additional configuration.

I've just been using the default sounds but I think there's a lot more in the VSC than what I've been using? If I select a new piano, for instance, in the VSC I think somewhere it says it won't apply to Jammer. Do I have to configure both? And Jammer has a place to configure style patches which may be what I need but the tutorial is a little hard for me to understand & I don't see all the available instrument choices that i see in the VSC. I consider upgrading to a better sound module but think I will have the same situation there...
Sorry to be dense ( I'm a gtr player...) & thanks!!!

Go here for general midi info:

http://www.midi.org/

then, and this should go without saying, use the search feature on this site and in this very forum. Your underlying question is a common one and has been dealt with many times by many people, some probably smarter than you and I put together.
