problems with vf80

i've had my vf80 for about a year and i havent had any problems with it at all untill recently i noticed that the second track doesnt work anymore. im not sure what the exact problem is but from what i can tell, track 2 is still getting a signal, but its set on the lowest volume so i cant hear it, and it doesnt respond when i move the fader up. if anyone could help me out with this i would appreciate it

The LCD bar graph is showing a good level, but you're not hearing anything? I wonder if somehow the Fader Scene memory is set.

Does this happen on all programs? If so, then I'd suspect that there's something else going on.

It's been a while since I used the VF80, so sorry for the guessing.

If you transfer material from another track to track two, can you hear it on playback?

It sounds like the preamp could be blown (due to overdriving it, or plugging in something while it was armed...or from whatever). The unit will probably have to go back to Fostex. But while it's there you could have them go through the whole machine and update the software...

Are you in the US? Look up the Fostex USA website and under the support menu or the contact menu you can find the address (Norwalk, CA, I think). I imagine they'll update the software for close to nothing. Send a note along to decribe the problem...

I don't know if emailing is necessary. I'd certainly confirm the right address on the website, then ship it insured to the hilt, with delivery confirmation. pack it in the original container, if you have it. The quicker you get it there, the faster it returns...

Now there may be a service center closer to PA, but you'll have to check on the website. OK, I did it for you.... Cal these folks first, then decide whether you want to send it all the way to Fostex in CA.
