That 60s Drum Samples?

I own the first Drumkit from Hell sample CD. The drums sound too "modern," if you know what I mean. They sound like huge rock kits. Are there any samples of more Ringo, wallet-on-the-snare-and-toms, warm, close sounding drums? Are there "vintage" drum sample CDs?

Don't know if it's the sound you are after, but you could check out ns_kit (free).

NS also makes the 'mini' kit, which I think is a better representation of the sound you (and I) want, but it can get a little old if used repeatedly.

I have this http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/...?sku=TASCDR-62, which is mostly loops, but it has all the individual hits at the end. I think its pretty sharp, but its audio only, so you'll have to have a hardware sampler or a basic PC wave editor (goldwave should do)

There are also several 'motown' and early funk style discs that might do the trick, and though they're loop based, you'll be able to extract hits. Some of the funk discs might sound too dry for vintage rock and roll.

They unfortunate part about trying to program 60s-style drums is that the room they were recorded in was the number one influence on the sound. So, even if you've got great samples, you'll still be after the perfect delay/reverb/room sound

If you were to sample old recordings (loops or hits) the repetitive-nature of the sound will end up sounding like (way) old-school hip hop loops, which is still better than the monster drums found on DFH.

Let me know what else you've found. It's been my quest for years.

Cheers
Chris

Maybe check out Steinberg Groove Agent...
Drum Machine and samples all in one...
It has great "vintage" sounding kits.

Chris,
Let me share what I've found so far:

Drumagog has a sample set called Dan's Vintage Drums. It only comes in .gog files but they're going to be coming out with a multiformat CD soon.

Battery comes with a drumkit called 60's Garage Drums. This might also be good.

There were a few other suggestions that I got when I posted this question at the cubase forum:

http://forum.cubase.net/forum/Forum4/HTML/015145.html

Maybe someone here will read this thread and decide to make the definitive 60s drumkit sample CD.....please????

-Teddy
