Upgrading to Audition 1.5

I currently have a problem due to a hard-disk crash. I used to have the download of CoolEdit Pro 2.1 (I still have the receipt) and I upgraded to Adobe Audition 1.0.

Trying to reinstall Audition 1.0 is proving impossible because it is looking for CoolEdit installed on the machine and finding my CDR with the download of CoolEdit is proving difficult. I wanted to upgrade to Audition 1.5 anyway.

Does anyone know if the upgrade version of Audition 1.5 does the same thing as version 1.0 and looks for a previous physical copy of Audition despite having correct product keys? I don't want to open the package if I can't install it!

Thanks in advance for any help!

The answer is yes. I had AA 1.0 and suffered a massive system destruction that took out the whole box (how was I to know you're not supposed to use the heat sink to barbecue?). I downloaded AA again (I had the registration info, so it didn't cost) and it wouldn't install because it didn't find CEP. Since I had the CD, I reloaded CEP, then AA, and off I went. It seems like when I upgraded to 1.5 it looked for CEP again, but my memory may be faulty. You might check with Adobe to see if they can set you up. There are a fair number of people around potentially in your situation, especially since CEP seemed to have some kind of protection system that made backups of the .exe file difficult. Even with it, you'd need your registration .exe to get it up and running. I'm just glad I saved all that stuff.

Thumbs up

Thanks lpdeluxe!

I did ring Adobe Support (UK) and the girl who answered said I only needed to have my previous reg keys. But despite me specifically asking the same question as above, she sounded less than convincing - which is why I thought I'd ask you guys on here (far more trustworthy!)

I guess if I have the latest version, Adobe will have to supply support... and since I have proof of purchase I should be okay

I will have a hunt through my boxes at home... if I can just find that CDR all this will avoided!

Thanks again!

Will Audition upgrade install if you have the demo version of CEP 2.0 installed and the key ready? If so, you can still find some demo downloads for CEP 2.0 that work.

I believe it needs to find a copy of registered CEP. When I first loaded software onto my rebuilt computer in February, for some reason Cool Edit Pro did not install correctly, and it wouldn't load; however, I ran the register key on it, then installed AA and everything was fine, at least with AA. I later reinstalled CEP, so I now have both.

Fortunately I did find my old copy of CoolEdit 2.1 and the Reg program, so when my copy of Audition 1.5 arrived, I had CE already installed. Saved me a lot of trouble.

And despite the claims of Adobe Support, the update installation did look for a previously registered copy!
