How do you plug an external mic preamp . . .
. . . into a VF08? It appears that through the XLR mic inputs is the only way, but then I'm going to be passing through the crappy internal preamp which doesn't seem like the optimal arrangement.

Go into the line in. You'll need an XLR-to-1/4" cable.

Mad, the only lines in are either the XLR mic inputs or the unbalanced 1/4" jacks. The Preamp has TRS 1/4" outputs.

Oh, I was thinking your pre had an XLR out. But you can still use the line input on the VF08. Use a balanced line cable.

So what you're saying is to plug out from the preamp into the mic XLR balanced line in? How should I set the trim? Won't I pick up a lot of noise going through the Fostex preamp?
Thanks, Mark |

Use a TRS to TRS. Set the trim all the way down at first and try to use the pre to set the level. Then bring the trim up as needed. As for noise, I guess you'll just have to try it and see. It's not like you have any other input options.
