Please Help!!!

I have over one hundred mp3 files, of which I need to remove the first 10 seconds. With batch processing I used the script method but I have a problem. When I press record on the script window I select the first 10 seconds and delete it. When I press stop and begin batch processing all the files using that script adobe audition does not delete 10 seconds, it deletes the selected area in terms of scale not time. (Hope that makes sense) basically all the files are different length and size and this script ends up deleting different portions of each file not just 10 seconds. How do I delete ONLY the first 10 seconds using the script method? Thanks.

I can't find a scripting reference anywhere, but when looking at the script files, they all say Selected: none at 0 scaled ######## SR ######
Where the first number seems to be the scaled number of samples, and the second number seems to be the rate.

So... how would i exactly program cool edit to take of 10 seconds, what do i change in the script?

armbar. i dont know if this will help.
but you might have to convert each file to wave audio,
then trim the amount you want by editing in a wave editor , then save and
re-encode to mp3. tedious i know !

Thats a good question, I've been looking, and the only script i've found online that does something remotely similar [or even something i could examine] just splits files into 20 equal parts [scaled, again]

If Cool Edit opens the file to do this, it's performing a decode-recode cycle and thereby degrading the mp3 sound quality. If possible, use another program which handles mp3s without decoding them. Next question - what program? I'd suggest some Googling for "mp3 split" or suchlike.

I'm not sure why it's not working, but I'd do it differently. If it were me, I'd bring each mp3 into the multitrack session with one click of the mouse (you'd do this by selecting "insert wave from file" and then highlighting all 100 mp3's. Then just hit "enter" and it will decode and load each mp3 onto a different track.

Then, when all the mp3's are on a separate track, I'd highlight everyone of them [ctrl +A] and then right click at the :10 second spot and hit "split." Delete all of the :10 second blocks. Then select all of the files again, right click, and hit "convert to unique copy." It should make a new copy out of every file with the first ten seconds gone. Then just save them.

Again, sorry...batch processing would probably be easier, and I don't know why it's not working...but you could do this in ten minutes.

Wow... Chrisharris your great! I managed to open all the files in mutitrack and delete the first 10 seconds successfully. But I can't seem to save the files. I selected all '[ctrl +A]' and right clicked, but couldn’t find "convert to unique copy.". Please can you explain in detail how exactly I can save the mp3 files? Also can I convert all of them together while they are in mutlitrack view into a different sample rate? Second problem... I am in the multitrack view and all my 100 mp3 files are displayed with the first 10 seconds deleted, I now want to insert a new clip (which is 5 seconds long) from another audio file into the beginning of all the 100 mp3 files. How do I paste this clip into all the 100 tracks together in multitrack view?

I hope that makes sense, just so you know my goal was that I had 100 mp3 files of which I wanted to replace the intro with a different one and convert the sample rate, without having to open each and every file individually.

I just tried it myself using 4 tracks in the multitrack, I had to select each track one at a time and the "convert to unique copy" option was available, but if I had 2 or more tracks selected, it was not.

Yeah, I guess you have to convert each one...maybe it takes longer than 10 minutes after all, hehehehee...

There's another way to do it, though. Once you've clipped all the files, select all of them [ctrl +A] - then, while they're all highlighted, push the ctrl button. While you're holding down the ctrl button, then LEFT click on any one of the 100 files and pull the mouse over to the right, then let go of the left click button on the mouse. It will make 100 copies.

Now, to get the new material in the first 5 seconds of each mp3, you need to first click on the track where you want it to go, then select "insert" from the tool bar, then "wave from file" and browse to it. It will put the 5 second clip wherever you had clicked before inserting it. If the 5 second file is the same for every tune, here's what I'd do. I'd put it in front of track 1 first and line it up by dragging it exactly where you want it to go (just right click on the little clip and you can move it around wherever you want). Then highlight the 2 files (the 5 second clip and the song on track 1 with the first 10 seconds removed), and go up to the edit toolbar and select "Mix Down >> Selected Waves." - It will blend the 2 together into a new file in the EDIT view of CEP. Then you can convert it whatever sample rate you want and save it. After doing that, then just go back into Multitrack and just use your mouse to move the 5 second clip in front of the tune on track 2. Repeat, rinse, lather, lol.
