Whats your favorite Album/CD (Drum wise)

It's been a while since I've seen a thread similar to this, so here it goes.

Mine is,

Hemispheres-Rush

I think this album get overlooked but this by albums like Moving Pictures, but this one of the best CD's in my opinion.

Im not really a drummer but Im going to go with Tool "Lateralus" . If its not my favorite, its somewhere in the top.

I'm gonna go with Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Mike Portnoy uses some cool ideas in that record. But I always seem to like the drumming in Master Of Puppets just because it fits well. It isn't the hardest stuff to play but it just plays well. I know I'm probably going to get flammed for that though haha.

Lateralus rocks - Danny Carey rules - i think i prefer Aenima though - it rocks more! Not my favourite drum album though, that would have to be ......

Hmmm... it's either "Spiderland" by Slint or "Deceit" by This Heat. Check them out immediatley.

6DOIT is definitely Mike Portnoy's most flamboyant work. However, in terms of overall sound and production on drums, I would definitely say the best sound ever recorded has to be on Dream Theater's Awake album.

Rush-"Caress Of Steel". An awesome album! "2112" is also a good drum record tone wise and chop wise.

AC/DC-"Ballbreaker" Phil Rudd's drum sound on that is awesome and he plays some good chops. "Stiff Upper Lip Live" is also great. "Powerage" and "Back In Black" are also classics.

The first Four Van Halen albums. Alex Van Halen kicks ass and has always had the best drum sound.

Led Zeppelin "How The West Was Won"-No explanation necessary!

ZZ Top-"Tejas" Frank Beard does alot of little stuff that is harder than hell to play.

For performance, I like Ghost in the Machine. For production, I like OK Computer. For the cover picture of Bill Bruford's forearm, Masterstrokes.

While usually not thought of much in the realm of great drumming/Portnoy/Peart/etc., Helmet's "Meantime" sticks out in my mind as a badass drumming record. Don't really know why.

Hmmm. I like the drummers I like for varying reasons. I lean toward rock, with a leaning towards a dark kind of sound. One of the bands that fits the bill perfectly is Tool.
Now, I thought (I know) that in some ways, Lateralus was a letdown drumwise. I thought he could do so much more. And he still does some tricky stuff. He is the master at making some incredibly tough hi-hat work sound mainstream simple like its any joeblow drummer.
I am going to have to go with the 1st Tool full length. Try playing the 4 of the 1st 5 songs through. They will make your head hurt if you are independently challenged, and what is so cool is that they are SLOW songs for the most part. Its not speed or even flash that makes him. Its the time he spends developing his drum parts and how difficult/interesting they are to play. Its the hi-hat work that gets ya everytime.
One of my second favorites is Dave Lombardos work on Slayers Reign in Blood and South of Heaven albums. To this day, no drummer (nor band)has ever been more aggressive, more brutal. A lot of bands have tried to be the heaviest most brutal thing around, but none have ever taken the crown from the orginal Slayer lineup. Those are the only two albums I can still throw in and want to chew drywall screws and bounce of the walls.
Now given those two bands, styles, my other favorite to watch and listen to is Neal Peart. I dont ahve a particular Rush album that I like more than others (though some of the newer ones kinda suck, music-wise) I do like the Live one that I have though, its really pretty old, its on tape, and it has damn near every great song they ever did on it. And its live and really lets you appreaciate what a great drummer (great band for that matter) he/they are.
Few drummers really grab me these days. Few bands do. Music is at a suck right now. Hope it changes soon.
New Tool due out in January. Lets hope its a return to the earlier days, or that its darker than the last one.

Totally. Its hard to talk about the album without praising the non-drum instruments. The power of the cymbols on KC Accidental, or the subtle awesomeness of them on the more quiet songs. It helps that hes such an amazing drummer
