Cymbal eq/compression question

Does anyone have any tips for using eq and compression to bring out the attack (stick) of the ride cymbal in the mix? The overheads in this case were a spaced pair. Thanks!

for EQ try pulling a little hi-mid out, around 1-2.5khz just a little. I've had some minor success using an expander for overheads, seems to bring some depth. IMO

Thanks, GABritton! That worked pretty well. I wound up using a compander and it helped, along with the mid-cut and a little boost around 850hZ. Of course, it will all change when all the instruments have been recorded (so far it's just drums, bass and scratch vocal) but at least I have a bit of a clue now. I'll keep messing with it and if I stumble on to something brilliant I'll post it here. Thanks again.

Rick

Well, prepare for a re-do as soon as all instruments are recorded.. did the same thing, 3 weeks between recording drums and after that we recorded 90% of the rest (bass, guitar, vox (lead)). The sound I'd set for the drummix before was dropped within 10 seconds of listening with all instruments in Sonar.. It will make a big difference when other instruments are also added..

Thanks for the reply. I know that's true so I didn't spend very much time on it--just a quick mix that I can live with in the meantime.
