Kick Drum Mic cutting out...WTF?

I have an intermittant problem where occasionally the track that my kick drum is on cuts out. Not on every take. And when it does get recorded it"s kind of crackly. I changed the xlr a few times and I dont think it"s the board. Could it be mic position ie high SPLs

OK, more info. It's a Beta 52. I position it inside the drum about 1-2" from the beater head. It's not clipping thru the board and I've had the same problem with another board. I'm thinking it may be the mic. Could be the converter.

I think I know what it is. I think there was too much tension on the xlr.

Thak you everybody for all the input
