why can't I get my effects to work during mix down

I have a 564 porta studio and I am having difficulty getting the effects to work during the mix down but will work during the actual recordnig of a track. Also, I have a mackie 1404 board that I would like to use for the mix down aspect of record how do I do this? thanks Phil

Depending on how you route youur mixdown, if you use your send and returns I don't see why you can't get the effect on the mix? I am not familiar with the Tascam recorder, but if you have the Mackie I would run the effects into your insert points(I just asked about this) for the tracks. Run your outputs from your tascam into the inputs of your mackie board, use the insert points for specific effects(like compression), and then you can use your Aux send and Returns on the Mackie for your effects. Certain Returns are pre and post fader. Let em know if this helps at all?
