MIDI Interfaces

A lot of companies make MIDI interfaces, they even make MIDI interfaces of their analog interfaces (with usually an in and an out)

So...a 'yes or no' just to make sure I'm on the right path:

Q:Are MIDI interfaces much like a MIDI hub for computers so you can connect multiple MIDI instruments and hardware to the computer?

Your question is worded kinda funny, but on balance the anwer is 'yes'.

A midi interface and a USB hub are similar in that they allow the introduction of different communication protocols into the computer. A midi interface and a USB hub differ in that a midi interface usually has one input/output where a USB hub may have several.

What do you mean by the last half of your sentence... do you mean that some soundcards contain MIDI interfaces in addition to audio I/O?

Stand-alone MIDI interfaces can be like a hub -- the cheapest ones are ususally just 1-in, 1-out like you get with many soundcards, but as you go up there are 2x2 interfaces, 4x4, 8x8...

They usually have one in and one out. What if I want multiple MIDI?

Most of the MIDI interfaces are, in fact, USB devices now. They connect to the computer via USB and have from one to eight MIDI Ins and Outs. Depending on which interface we're talking about, some of them can merge or reroute MIDI data in different ways.

Your questions and statements are kind of confusing which leads me to believe you're not quite understanding MIDI interfaces. You wanted to know if you're on the right path. Perhaps, if you told us where you were trying to go we would know if that's the case or not.
