Question: Using Minidisc as Data Drive.

Hello:
I am currently on the road doing some multitrack recording and I am trying to figure out a way to solve this problem:
I have a digital recorder that uses SmartMedia cards (128mb). The cards are now full. I want to backup and recycle these cards for new material BUT I don't have a pc with me (and I would rather not buy tons of SmartMedia cards). So I am in the market for a portable backup device / external drive. I've heard that Minidisc Players (and Ipods) can do this. But I'm not sure if they have the capacity to back-up data directly from a SmartMedia card (via SM card reader to Minidisc player USB in ... I guess) OR for the MD player does data transfer need to be PC mediated ...
Oh yeah ... Not sure if this matters but the data on the SM cards is in MP2 format.

Any input would be appreciated ....

If the MD player cannot do this does anyone know if the IPOD (or similar or other) can?
thanks ....

MD or iPod back up?

I can't think of how you'd accomplish your goal with an iPod. On the MD, you might be able to make a digital copy of your tracks if your recorder has an optical output. Otherwise, I'm thinking you'd have to make an analog recording of your tracks onto the MD using the lineout or headphone jack on the recorder and the line in on the MD. Also, you need to be really careful about which MD recorder you buy. Most of the new Sony models don't have any sort of line in or mic in jack.

I was just on the Sony page. They have a media reader that connects though USB directly to their new hi-md recorders. It says you could upload pics and docs so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to upload your music data. Cheick it out at http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...alkman&Dept=pa
