Reverb plugins for vocals
So I was wondering what you guys like to use, IŽve only tried the reverbs that come with cubase, and I donŽt like the effect of those, somehow over the top. What do you prefer for vocals or for acoustic guitar?

I've recently been using the SIR 'verb plug. It's a convolution reverb (or sampling reverb) that uses impulse responses from real spaces and the sound of real hardware units I don't really understand the science of it tbh but I like what it can do. As a starter I d/loaded all the Lex PCM91 reverb patches from noisevault and I much prefer them over the Cubase verbs. I'll d/load some more 'flavours' in time but for now I'm just enjoying the PCM91.
I doubt they're a match for the original units (I wouldn't know as I've never used a good quality hardware verb unit) but as I say they're a step up from your average bundled reverb plug in. And best of all it's free so got to be worth a shot. Here's where you can download SIR: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/download.html And here's where you can download IR's (there are other places but this is the best I've found): http://www.noisevault.com/index.php?page=3 Good luck and enjoy

I forked out around $200 on sale for a TC Electronic M300, just for the verbs. As an outboard unit, is has SPDIF, so if you want to keep everything in the digital domain you can. The verbs on it blow away any software versions I have tried. I have yet to hear a real good verb plug-in.

I much prefer the verbs I'm getting with SIR although like I said, I'm sure it doesn't compete with the high end hardware units.

Kevin thanks so much, those impulses are awesome! I just tried it
quickly after getting SIR, man I've been looking for a good reverb ever since I bought Cubase SX. Edit: Whoa, SIR is power hungry, I'm probly goin over the top with it, Here is what happened: i dropped it in the vocal fx chan. and it was oh so nice, then I inserted it on the snare and it was big and '80s, then insert on kick drum, huge!! (all from pantheon impulses) It was kinda mono for kick and snare, so I made them stereo tracks and re-inserted, ugly. I solo-ed the drumkit and it kinda played, I think the kick is what made it hog so bad. I am running an Athlon 64 w/1 gig RAM, never had a slow down before, but it sounds so good. Guess I gotta export a track with SIR, and then import it back post process. Any suggestions? Jason Last edited by Bass Jas; 11-06-2004 at 16:52.. |

cool, downloaded it, gonna check it out, i'm real curious, since i'm on the constant lookout for a Decent reverb
didn't find much useful software verbs yet, totally dislike the built in verb plugs of cubase, i did use the Wavearts masterverb, it was useful for SOME applications, definately NOT everything then there is Roomverb m2...its nice, has lots of options, but i'm not very very impressed ----------- "I am running an Athlon 64 w/1 gig RAM, never had a slow down before, but it sounds so good. Jason" mhh,, can't you just Bounce the tracks you're working on? instead of exporting and importing, it just saves a little time and weird, you're pc is having a hard time with only like 3 or 4 tracks running a reverb plugin?

I have used Waves Diamond vst plugins and was quite impressed with the results, but beware they can guzzle a lot of power.

I prefer Waves RVerb over anything (except maybe the new convolution verb thing from waves?)
