Problem with instrument definitions

Hey, could someone help me?

I have KORG SP-300 and quite good sound card. My KORG is kind of cool stuff but it has not very much instruments or sounds. So I guess my problem could be solved with different instrument definition. But there is another problem - I think the cakewalk doesn't use them, but still uses KORG's sounds. I can't use drumsets (like I do on other synthesizers which are made for music making on different programs) and other stuff.

Sorry that I talk incoherent, but It's kind of hard to tell the problem, if I don't understand it

The instrument definitions are not sounds or instructions for creating sounds. They are name maps that relate Cakewalk's display of available patches and parameters to those of the particular MIDI instrument you're using. As an example, patch 1 on Synth XYZ might be named "Bitchin' Piano," while patch 1 on Synth ABC might be called "Piano Perfectamundo." A instrument definition for Synth XYZ lets see the names that the manufacturer of Synth XYZ used when you pick patches in Cakewalk.

you can use a software synth or sampler and use your korg keyboard to play it, if your recording program allows it.
I use Edirol's VSC,Hypercanvas, and Orchestrator with Sonar. Also a virtual synth called Live Synth Pro to play soundfonts (samples). I don`t use the sounds from my Korg synth at all anymore, just as a midi keyboard to drive everything else and a Proteus.

James, dach', or Moskus, Can he do this with 9 ? I been in Sonar so long I can`t remember much about it, except that it supported my old soundblaster.

Still a rookie...

Lightbulb

No, Cake Pro 9 doesn't support soft synth / sampler / DXi / VSTi. You can use Rewire with stand alone softsynth anyway. Or SB card with soundfonts off course Hey, maybe it's time to upgrade to either Home Studio or Sonar...
