Using Yamaha Pro Mix 01 with M-Audio Omni I/O: Best setup advice needed

Hi guys,

Here's the dilemma. I'm trying to figure out the best way to use my Yamaha Promix 01 and my M-Audio Omni I/O into Delta 66, to achieve optimum results when tracking one track at a time. My concerns are:

- Does the Promix have better pre's than the Omni?
- If so, is it worth using them if I have to record at a lower sampling rate?
- Does the Promix have better AD/DA converters than the Delta 66?

With these questions in mind, here are the possible setups:

1) Just plug mics directly into the M-Audio I/O preamps and bypass the Pro Mix altogether; record at 24 bit/96 kHz

2) Plug mics into Pro Mix, and use its aux sends to route signal to the line in's on the Omni I/O; record at 24 bit/48 kHz since that matches the limit of the Pro Mix's internal processing

3) Plug mics into Pro Mix, and use its stereo bus (L and R) to route signal to the line in's on the Omni I/O; record at 24 bit/48kHz since that matches the limit of the Pro Mix's internal processing

4) Plug mics into Pro Mix and use SPDIF to route signal directly to the Delta 66, bypassing the Omni I/O and the Delta's AD/DA converters; record at 24 bit/48kHz since that matches the limit of the Pro Mix's internal processing.

Anyone have any feedback on what I should do? Any other ideas? Any assistance appreciated.

If you're only tracking one instrument /vocal at a time, why the Pro Mix at all?

If you need to track 6 channels at once then use the two Omni Pres, the 3 and 4 line in, and the spdif in (from the 2 aux channels and the Spdif). Take channels 3-4 from the Omni back to the ProMix for monitoring playback tracks seperatly from the Omni Main (1 & 2) outs.

Make sure your clock the Omni to the ProMix at 48Khz.
