The BCF2000???

Hey all,

I've been looking at the BCF2000 control surface, and I'd like your input. First though:

Here's my setup...nothing to brag about, but it gets the job done.

BTW, it's a home studio for my acappella group.

Behr B2 condenser mic (Yup. Just one. We lay down a scratch track and then put down a part at a time later)
Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro board
P-IV monster (can't remember the specs) compy
Using a 24bit Sound Blaster blah blah blah
Event TR5's
Cakewalk Homestudio 2004

Like I said, nothing to brag about. I'm just a hobbyist.

Anyway, my question is what you guys think of me adding a BCF2000 control surface, just so I don't have to be tied to a mouse for mixdown. Will that work? Will the BCF2000 render the Mackie board redundant? I was thinking of keeping the Mackie rather than buying a pre-amp box.

Control surface would work for mixing in your DAW but would not interface at all with your Mackie board. You'd use the Mackie for tracking and the BCF2000 mixing... never the twain shall meet...

That's what I figgered...

Do you know...? Do I have to use the midi interface AND the usb? Or can I control my on-screen faders using usb only?

BTW, I put my hands on one at the local GC. Sort of flimsy feeling, but then for $219, what else should I expect, eh?

Anybody have firsthand experience with one?

I asked the GC guy in pro audio, but I trust those guys no farther than I can throw them.

The USB connects to the computer... the additional midi ports are for other midi devices... it appears as though these additional devices can be controlled from either the surface or the computer (like a mini midi patch). But all midi communication with the PC are through the USB port.
