once u put track 1-4 on 5/6 can u undo that?

Once you put tracks 1-4 on tracks 5/6, is it possible to undo if you turned the machine off? On an mr-8 this is. Also, people who make music using mr-8s can i hear some of ure mp-3s?

mr8

good question, never really tried, as long as you havnt used the delete unused function yet it should work....

most people here do not mix down on the mr8, they transfer the tracks to the compute and mix there, the mr8 is really designed to be used in conjunction with the computer, although it is not marketed that way.,..... due to the fact that there is no eq, and the effects are god awful..... dont use the mastering functins either, they are also crap....

can i ask what the point of the mr-8 is then, if it's advisable to mix, add effects, eq and master on a computer...? surely you could just bypass the mr-8 altogether and record directly on to the computer.

please point out any flaws in my argument!

Oh, that's easy. We forgot to mention that it is RED!!! Candy-like red some might say. Did we mention that the screen was backlit? That it comes with a wopping 128 MB CF card? That you can pretend to be Mr Scott at the controls of the transporter aboard the USS Enterprise...just push up that slider and watch Kirk materialize...

I heard they were coming out with black, but I can not confirm that rumor.

I did mention that the MR8 is red, didn't I?

My friend, some of us despise recording directly into a computer. It's such a hassle.

The MR8 has many good points! Like...uh.....er....hmmm.

Tell him Dave !

Did anyone mention that it is red?

Just funnin', sorry.

I suppose that the advantage of it is for someone who comes from a 4-track cassette background, the learning curve is easy. If you have adequate computer skills, and can deal with latency, driver issues, or what-have-you (I don't really know because I dont!) then maybe buying a "good" soundcard and going directly into the 'other' box would be preferable....

It's definitely been a useful stepping stone for me, and I've learned quite a bit during the time I've owned it.

Help me out here dave... calling dave... dave in toledo....

this is the point

try it, get a free demo of n track or what ever you want... try it

you will find lots of sound card issues, interface issues, latency issues, the latency is the worst.....too much to deal with and your going to spend about the same amount on the interface anyway... the mr8 records and punches in seamlessly.... very hard to do recording on the pc... you need a real powerhouse of a computer, doing it this way an old pc with win 98 will work.....

get the best of both worlds, most professional sounding recordings from a home studio i have heard, while many do well with the bigger units, cost is a big issue for me with the mr 8 and n track and the pc i altready have i have a unlimited number of recording and effects , limiters compressors, eq and MASTERING options....

nothing wrong with mixing down on the mr8 and learing to record.... after you get to a certain point, you are goin gto want better sounding recordings...

software

many out there, i like n track 50 dollars, has some buillt in effects, hundreds available for free, great eq with spetrum analyser, works flawlessly with mr8 files and has up to 88 tracks.

new version 4 is out and it is still a little buggy.... free trail version available on line, get a few of them and try them. then buy what works well for you....

Is the spectrum analyser an additional plug in, or am I once again missing an invaluable feature? From your wording I'd guess the latter.

So how do you access the spectrum analyser?

spectrm analyser

on the channel strip there is a button that looks kind of like a grid or a speaker, click that and the individual eq funcion comes up with the spectrum analyser, version 4 button looks like a a graph chart....

To answer the original question, because I tried it, you can't undo bouncing tracks once you turn the mr8 off. And you can't undo it if you bounce and then record another track. You get up to 99 undo's, but only for a single purpose, i.e., if you keep f*('ing up a track. But you can't undo once you turn it off. And as far as software, you can't get anything decent for free. But you can demo almost all of them with limitations. Don't be cheap, spend a few bucks, it'll be worth it. I have Sony Vegas 5.0 (don't consider it, it cost me $600.00 US), and while it's primarily for editing DVD, It gives me 48 tracks to play with on my current pc setup. I don't record to the pc because I don't like all the bs involved with it either. And I will post something I have done with the mr8 in the mp3 clinic as soon as I get my copyright cert back.

Just google copyrighting music, and you can find links to sites that have the application. It'll state right on there what it is for (defaults to vinyl, but it covers all), and how much it will cost. Not too hard, but it can take awhile to get it back. I know I can post without that in my hot little hands, but the mix I sent in (you have to provide a burned to cd copy) was not as good as what I am remixing. Plus I am in Hawaii and away from my stuff right now.... (damn that sounds better than it really is...)

someone tried it

cool now we know ...... glad someone gave it a shot...

"And as far as software, you can't get anything decent for free. But you can demo almost all of them with limitations. Don't be cheap"

as far as recording software, nothing really for free, but for 600.00 i think maybe a little out of most of our price range......but like i said try the demos, lots out there..

as far as effects go, lots of free stuff that many pros use, like the classic series of compressor , their master limiter, and their eq, if you check on the n track forum you will find hundreds of references to great plug ins found for free...and some of these guys are doing tracks for commercias and voiceovers for tv and what not....with n trac for 50.00 that gives it credibility....

I didn't have to pay for Vegas. I have a friend who has a side business where he makes DVD's out of people's home videos. He adds music to the soundtracks and stuff like that, or does like a foley edit where he goes in and lets them overdub conversations to make them funny, etc. He let me download his copy on my pc. The only disadvantage that I have is that I can't register it, so no upgrades. But I am happy with it as it is.

I didn't like what my PC did to my MR8 track. I could hear a difference between the stereo wave file playing thru winamp and playing thru ntrack. I don't know what that means or if it's not the final result sound or what, but I'll try it again.
