I have an MD8, and I notice when we try to do a live set (record all 8 channels) we run into some problems doing monitoring...basically different members want to hear different things...my AUX sends are already taken with EFX processors...any suggestions?? Thanks in advance

Hook up the individual channel sends to another mixer. That's the only way I can think of.

"You can't always get what you want,
You can't always get what you want,

But if you try sometimes, you just might find..."

I get pissed off all the time with the guys wanting this and that. I've also noticed they buy NOTHING for the projects. So they'll get what I give 'em, which is what I suggest to you.

Or, hell, go buy another mixer. Next it'll be an air conditioner, more soundproofing, individual sound rooms... AAAUUUGH!!!

Okay. I'm venting. All over now.

Use FX during mixdown. Send your AUX to their monitors/headphones.

That way your FX aren't permanent, and your buds are happy.

Then again, they probably want to hear the FX, too, don't they?

AAAAAUUUUGH!

(not done venting, apparently)

Cool

Yo CONFIGTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT:]

sUGGEST that you do different parts when you're recording, it's called OVERDUBBING.

Like, I like to get the drums and chords down since I'm the only performer, unless working with a canary or some other client.

When the drums and chords are set, [you can use all the FX you want recording because it doesn't go onto the disc; you can hear it in the headset, but it's added in the final mix,] then add bass on a separate track; then, horns, then, whatever to fill up your eight tracks if that's what you want. Suggest you don't bounce; if you do bounce, then you lose control of EQ and FX for the instruments you bounce; you can only tweak the track and if you have three instuments on one track, they cannot be tweaked; only the track can be tweaked and what you what up high on EQ you may want low for the other instrument or vocal or whatever.

If you want to do all eight tracks at once, you need eight sets of headphones and a relay box with controls for the headsets and then you can tweak each track as you want but you can only use two FX boxes on the MD-8 but that's enough FX for anyone.

Suggest you do overdubbing; it's easy and effective and you can really tweak and control.

I have found midi sequencers to be more cooperative than bands for recording purposes....Hell, for that matter, cheaper.

Thanks for all the suggstions!!! Let's see I do use a midi sequencer with an Alesis when I do solo stuff, so thanks for that input! And yes there are some people that want to hear the effects while we play, but it is not recorded (hence why the aux sends are taken) and yes they are never satisfied, hehe...solved the problem by a mixer with sub-outs and multiple aux sends...also will come in handy with live gigs...thanks for the suggestions..always appreciated!!
