My First Post...need Some Feedback On Levels/mix

I already received a few comments from the guys at tascamforums, and am looking to get a few more. I believe I may have screwed up the stereo image a bit by using the "stereo" effect on my Ultrafex, but it can be easily fixed. Any tips on levels, recording techniques in need of improvement, etc. would be most educational and most appreciated.

The mix seems to lean to the left. I'd pan the drums dead-center, and maybe the tom fills from left to right or the other way around. Same goes for the vocals. They seem to be coming from the right. Center them. The guitars sound good.

Just my taste: more mid (especially low-mid) in the bass.

Thanks Halion. I ran the mix through a Behri Ultrafex that has a "stereo enhancer" dial that I probably used too much of, thus the offset. On the board, both drum tracks are panned right down the center, rhythms at about 10:00 and 2:00, vocals maybe about 2:30, so I'll bet it's that damn Behringer device that's really throwing it off. I'll re-mix, ease up on that little stereo dial on the Behri, pull the vocals away from the right, and see if that takes care of the panning problems. Thanks again for your input, man.

Remember to never ever run a full mix through a stereo enhancer

A stereo enhancer can be good if you want to make something broader than it would normally be, like a single acoustical guitar track, or backing vocals, never everything. Imagin going to a concert where the singer and bassplayer would to the far left of the stage, and the drummer and guitarplayers to the far right. That would sound right, right?

i agree with that so cant really expand on it at all. apart from a few of the notes in the wah guitar solo distorted a bit nastily. other than that, its a cool chune and agree that the guitars sound good. nice tone!
dont sound awful to listen on my stereo as a normal listen - but throwing on the headphones really made uncomfortable listening due to the panning. nice sounds, just there was so much left-right going on, it was a bit weird.

Yeah, I've gotta get that panning situation straightened out. Funny, I couldn't really hear it through the monitors but when I played it through my computer speakers, there it was. I'll fix the problem within the next day or so and see what you guys think. Hey thanks for the input!

If you listen to one mix for a long time you'll get used to it and won't be able to make good judgements on it anymore.

Nice job, Dale. I know others have talked about the mix being left heavy, but the vocal seemed to be hitting me from the right, which may just be the delay coming from right to left. In fact, I think this would sound a lot better without the vocal treatment you used. Did you double it, or is that just a delay/chorus thing. Anyway, it's not out of place for the genre, I'd just personally like to hear a more straightup vocal. You can obviously sing, don't hide it, lol.

Drums sound way left, lol.
