DA38/88 Maintenance

Hey All!

I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. I have 3 DA38s ranging in use hours from 340 - 540. I would love to perform my own maintenance/troubleshooting but cannot find any info on anything. I'm just thinking of head cleaning, or tape alignment or even some sort of refernce to know when I need to send it in for repair. Does anyone do this on their own, is there a book somewhere? Upkeep can be so stinking costly.

Unless you have experience repairing 8mm camcorder transports and the tools necessary for it, I would leave the job of maintenance up to the professionals who have experience with those machines for doing alignments and head changes.

As for cleaning, I am sure the manual would suggest a suitable cleaner tape that you would just insert and play for a few seconds to clean the tape path.

There's also a new MDM forum over at the TASCAM forums which might offer additional insight into reading error codes and other service issues.

Cheers!
