Question

Yeah, I'm still considering. I would like to get the Yamaha MD8 but it's a little out of my range. I just did a little browsing at the smaller units (zzounds) but there was nothing to clarify the difference between the MD4 & MD4S ($100 price difference, though). Could someone tell me what the difference is between these two units?

Well, I'm not sure, but one of the other message boards for the MD8 suggests that the only difference is the COLOR! Apparently the MD8s is a silver-gray, while the MD8 is just black. Would the MD4s then be silver? Don't know. I would hope that they would add memory or balanced inputs if they charge $100 more, but from what I understand, it is merely the color of the plastic.

The MD4S has the latest ATRAC version (4.5) and people who have heard earlier versions say it's much better (though I've never heard anything else but it sounds great to me). The MD4S also has the two XLR inputs, which I don't use anyway since I use external pre-amps. I'm sure they also added editing features and stuff. Can you still get the MD4? I would think that stores would only be selling the newer model.
BTW, I love my MD4S. Very convienent for the music I do which is solo singer/songwriter stuff. I usually just use stereo minidiscs (much cheaper) for 74 minutes of 2-track recording. I then take my best material and use the data discs for 35 minutes of 4-track recording. You can listen to some stuff I did on the machine at http://home.earthlink.net/~egordon99/seasons.html (cheesy RA files)
AND my secret mp3 link I only give out on this BBS :-) http://campharlam.org/mp3/forgotten.mp3

Good luck!
