UAD-1 vs. Kjaerhus Audio - Anyone?

Has anyone spent anytime working with/comparing the UAD-1 and the Kjaerhas Audio Golden Series of plugins?
Any thoughts/comments on these two would be great.
It seems to me that DSP boards are really a form of software security. You can't run the UADs software if it doesn't see the card but software really doesn't care where it runs. Sure they free up processor power but computers just keep getting faster. For the software developer a DSP plugin card sure reads alot better than a dongle or Pace. The bottom line is we are paying more for them to provide security for their software. On the positive side a DSP card allows for software resale which is normally a difficult thing to do.

thanks,
Bob

The truth is, DSP card or not, you aren't paying more for it. In many ways when you look at cost compared to what plugins you receive and the quality of those plug-ins, it is cheaper than many other software alternatives. The UAD compressors (1176 and LA2) are far better than any other native software comps that I am aware of on the market. Add the Pultec EQ to that and the newer Dreamverb, and those 4 plugs make the UAD worth the price of admission in my opinion. This is of course assuming you are mixing in the box and don't have serious outboard racks available to you
