Hi,
I would like to ask for some advice on getting music from a fostex XR3 onto a CD using N-track studio. I have only a limited knowledge of the equipment (I'm not the music maker) but for complex reasons I've been charged with the job of preserving a lot of music, so if anyone could be kind enough to offer some simple instructions on how to proceed I would be extremely appreciative.

have to record into ntrack, need to hook up the outs from your analog to the recording ins on the pc, record the tunes in ntrack, then run through cool edit 96 FREE use the noise reduction, but dont set it too high it will sound metalic, ......

Thank you for the advice which I have followed... hooked up the outs to the ins but then...nothing! N-track doesn't seem to be registering any signal from the fostex. Am I missing a vital step in proceedings perhaps? Also is cool edit 96 a part of N-track or some extra software I need to buy? Thanks again.

i would suggest going to audiominds.com and reading the tutorial on recording with n, as i use the mr8 to record and n track to mix my experience with the recording part of n is limited.... coll edit is free but you can only use two functions at a time, i suggested this because it has a great noise reduction feature to get rid of the analog noise you are most likely to have

Dave, thanks to your suggesting audio minds I can now get the music into the pc, however the speed is far too fast (sounds like helium voices). I checked the sample rate setting, which at 44100 seems to be correct, and I haven't been able to find any other info relating to this particular problem. Might you be able to suggest a possible solution?

check the audiominds forum, those guys understand all about the serttings inside of n, yu need to get the card and all the settings correct....

Hey, out of curiosity, what kind of soundcard do you use "with" N? I've heard it, vaguely alluded to, that the soundcard (or in my case soundchip) can have a huge impact on things even when recording with the MR8...???

when recording to the mr8 and transfering the files, the sound card does not come into play, being you are altering a digital file, just like a photoshop file or word doc.

only when you play it back through the pc, and listen, do the files interact with the soundcard....but not when you edit in n track or burn the cd...

but when recording it makes all the diference, many settings and other issues to deal with, the exact reason i decided to use the mr8 instead of a interface and recording to the pc....

it appears the digital to analog conversion happens outside the pc, so the sound card is not involved....
