Wink

So you've writen part of a song, maybe lyrics, maybe music-what next-don'tyou feel you expected more from that song you started. This post is about songs with potential that kind of went wrong, why did they fuck up, who fucked them up and what did you do.

As an example, I write a melody that has such potential, the along comes the band and turns it into something else-It has spoilt it, I can't now refine it, waht they have done is in my head, it will never be the same again.

So, I guess, have you been in a situation when you have thought that this soong will be great, up there with the best and to be turned into somer throwaway tune along with the rest, please tell us your story.

Question

I don't understand.Do you own the song at least? If you own it, you can do anything with it, especially re-write it.

Did you ask the band members to finish the song? If I was you, and I wanted help to finish a song, I would make sure I know the person, songwriting-wise, that I chose to collaborate with.

Angry I hear ya

I've always have a handful of songs laying around that are in a partial stage of completion. I know what you mean about once you 'hear' something in your head melody wise its hard to shake. I usually throw that song away and you know what? Usually a few months later it pops into my head again and I can analyze it freshly - without that annoying pattern. This works well for me since I don't start one song idea and finish it before moving on the next song. I can have 4-5 songs going at once. The good ones always finish themselves eventually.

yeah, it's like once you've heard it a certain way a number of times it's difficult to imagin it any other way. thus, making it very difficult to change.

Sounds like you need to be a litte more flexable. Or just don't bring a tune to the band until you have it finished. I know what you mean though, I've been there before, but really you need to learn how to let something go. It is hard to open up to other peoples ideas, but consider this, those ideas probably don't suck.
