Mixing Drive Speeds

can you do this w/7200 and 10,000? is it wise to do so even if it is possible


cause there's this 10,000 I'm looking at, but I just bought a 7200...

They connect to different ports on your motherboard, so you shouldn't have any problems at all with mixing different drives or drive speeds. Just make sure your motherboard supports SATA.

Not trying to be an ass, but please don't use AOL-speak like "str8". It's not that much harder to just type the whole thing out..."straight"...and it makes it a hell of a lot more readable. Thanks.

Yes. The platters inside the hard drive spin at 7200 or 10,000, or 5400 (older drives.) the faster they spin, the less searching has to be done to retrieve files, making things go quicker. Also, the onboard cache plays a big role. More ram = more info stored ahead of time.

since you have SATA, the new maxtor 10,000 Raptor, are the fastest on the market today.

If I may ask, what are you playing on doing with the drives? Applications? Storing Files? Operating System?

I've got a 200gig Seagate for files, and am scouting for a 40 or 80gig for programs, and the OS...that'd be the 10g one
