Fostex DMT8-VL... any good these days?

I have a line on a fairly attractively priced Fostex DMT8-VL, but haven't been able to find too many reviews on these units. I know they're fairly old now, but does anyone have any experience with them? I found some older threads on here, but they're all from 2002 and prior, so I'm wondering if people have simply written these off by now? Thanks!

Thumbs up Dmt8-vl

I had one for years and made some good stuff with it.
Itīs a straight-forward recorder with nothing else stuck in it. It's got analog mixer, so that can cause some hiss but still the sound quality is decent. Now I use mr8 w/laptop so thereīs a big difference in the way I work now, but still somedays I miss the olī8.. sniff (;-)

What would you say the appropriate price for one of these units would be today?

Kuhlmay, how does the mr8 work with the laptop? Do you use the laptop as a backup device, or is the mr8 an interface for recording on the pc?

Thumbs up price etc.

DMT8vl's price varies a lot, depending on is it mint or worn out, how big is the hdd and stuff like this. It's finally up to what somebody is willing to pay.
Mr8 is handy for ideas but for serious recording tasks it's only a interface but still worth every penny it costs (MHO).

A good condition DMT8VL with 2 Gig or larger HD

Should be worth at least $300.00. But you may find one even cheaper... BUY IT! You won't be sorry. Two or more of them will link up together to give you 16 or 24 tracks on a budget! I sold my pair of them and traded up to a fostex D2424Lv, but of course I had to buy an outboard mixer as well.

The pre-amps on my DMT8VL's were very quiet and I got some great direct guitar sounds straight in to the board (With the effects sends.)

Check out ebay and you may get lucky.

Sincerely

DOM FRANCO
