Hey all,
I'm sure this has probably come up in the past here, but can anyone tell me WHY this happens? Extremely frustrating after having worked so hard on a song that isn't able to be moved to the computer. Is it a corruption in the WAV file upon leaving the MR-8? I thought maybe it was an issue of length of song or memory, but it's been happening more frequently. Any info? Thanks |

Yes yes, that poor guitar looks quite lonely...
.......shame..... oh... incorrectparameter...hmmm. Sorry, ahem... You are not recording in extended mode by any chance, are you? using the 128 CF card that came with the MR8? Are you using an external CF card reader, or the MR8 in USB mode? Did you d/l the "wavmanager" from Fostex website? |

parameter incorrect
I'm recording in normal mode (pretty sure), and going straight from the mr8 to the computer after WAV conversion. I haven't downloaded wav manager yet (would that have any part in this matter?). Yeah, I'm using the 128mb card. How exactly does the card reader work? I'm fairly new to homerecording, so I'm still trying to figure some stuff out.

You will need to download the wave manager and the upgrades to your mr8. Go to fostex.com and get them there. There are currently 2 upgrades for the software.
The wave manager is the best way to download to the PC. Just be sure that you keep the wave files in 44.1kz, 16 bit mono, or you can't put them back in your mr8. |

parameter is incorrect
So not having wave manager has to do with that stupid error? I hope once I get WM it'll stop.
Oh, one more thing. I notice once I get the song to the computer, the volume flutters up and down. Yet it doesn't do that while the song's on the MR8 during mixdown and mastering. I don't use the mastering effects, thinking that would help, but I still got it. I notice it on playback on the comp. Why would this happen? |

I've yet to find a useful purpose for the "mastering effects".

One other thing that I noticed is that you are converting to a wave file before you download. When you get the wave manager, you will be able to download your tracks individually, that way you can edit them. Perhaps there is a problem with your computer reading the wave file that is causing the flutter.

mr8
do not bounce down on the mr8 , transfer the individual tracs to the pc, then open them in a n track or the software of your choice, mix add effects there( never use the mr8 effects or masteing). then mixdown on the computer, master and move on, you can get as many tracks as you need this way, not just 8 record 4 tracs, move to pc, make a go by track on the pc, and mix down to the mr8 channel one, then add new tracks and repeat....

volume flutter
Cool, moving the tracks separately makes sense, Dave.
Rokket, By volume flutter I mean that, while I'm playing it back on my computer, the song sounds fine one minute, then suddenly it's as if the volume just drops down about a quarter. It lasts for several seconds, then the volume sounds ok again. This happens on and off again throughout the song. Anyone ever had this happen? |

volume flutter
I always use the power adaptor when transfering the song to pc, as well as recording. Did you have problems with the adaptor or batteries, Rokket? I haven't tried deleting the song and transfering again, not sure if that would help. Well, once I get N-track hopefully this stuff will clear up. Thanks for all your suggestions guys.

Yeah, I believe you about the batteries being gobbled up. Well, I hope next time I record something else things will turn out better. Thanks again

No problem. I have only had mine for a few months now, and I don't know what I would do without it!
