Illegal operations

does anyone know why, and what i can do about cool edit pro telling me it has done an illegal operation in the middle of recording a track. Why does it do that, and what can i do about it?

I don't think it's Cool Edit giving you that message, I think it's Windows, if that's your operating system. I get it too sometimes, but never in the middle of recording a track. Sounds to me like a computer problem rather than a Cool Edit glitch. Try the 'Computer Recording and Soundcard' forum on this BBS. There are some very experienced computer heads here.

The only real glitch in CEP that I know of is that when windows goes to screen saver, or hte monitor goes to power down mode, CEP 1.2 will perform an illegal operation and have to shut down. That has happened to me on at least six machines I have used CEP 1.2 on. With 1.0 and 1.1 it never happened. So, now I just disable all the screen saver and power down stuff, especially when recording nine minutes epics like I do.

I noticed that CE2k does the same thing to me when my system's proformance drops to around 70%. When this happens, I usally close everything and re-boot to clear out the RAM. Hope this helps

many times when i'm sequencing WAVs in the multitracker section it keeps on quitting on me, especially when i tried to cut them up. it at one point just wouldn't let me back into the file, so i had to start again is it a memory problem or is there smth that i'm not doing right?

I've had the same illeagal operation problem. i ditched the program, it got so annoying. I'm using Cubase and Logic Platinum now. Cubase has amazing stabliity on my computer, even though Cool Edit has the extra tracks.

I had that problem too. And like mastahnke
said when I used version 1.2 it would do that all the time so I just stuck with version 1.0. One other thing you might do is go into settings and change the buffer and cache settings sometimes this works. Good luck.
