Filtering - Help needed

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use cool edit pro or cool edit 2000 to remove the lyrics from mp3/wav files in order to leave just a "Backing Track" (like a karaoke track. I have been told it is possible to do using filters but can't find out how.

go to amplify>channel mixer and select the vocal cut preset i think it only works if the vocals you want to remove are panned to center. cool edit pro,that is,i don't know about ce 2000
