Tascam us-122

Hi friends,i am a rather new user of the us-122,i need some advice on what kind of software to use besides the bundled in software,it feel so rinky dink,i saw another user mention he is using sony's sound forge with the us-122,is this good software for the us-122?

I also have no clue on how to convert my compilations into a wave or wma file so i can burn them to a cd-r,i tried with no success, anyone know how i turn a track into a audio file i can burn?

any software that could be a little more straight forward would be nice but i will take anything.

pc specs,Pentium 2 with 128 megs of ram win98se usb ports pci sound card
4 gig drive.

firstly let me say there have been a lot of probs with usb sound solutions, as you will see searching this bbs.
i'm a puter engineer with my own daw and wont use it.
but for you it might work fine. sometimes for some folks it does work OK.
but pci is better imho.
also with respect the p2 is getting a bit long in the tooth for serious
daw work.
i recommend an amd athlon, 512 ram, and two fast 7200 rpm hard drives.
dma enabled. this will do 40 tracks easily. this should cost around 500 bucks if you shop wisely.
on the software multitrack front. just search under my name,
and go to the newbies section and read the arch_jedi thread currently up from beginning thru the gory middle to the successfull end. i think you will findit interesting.
if you only can keep the p2 and cant afford an upgrade to a new pc,
i would suggest you try upgrading the memory to more ram at the least,
and see if you can get enough tracks to keep you happy.
on the cd burning - i mix down in the multitrack software to stereo then burn the master using nero.
peace.
