I just want to know what causes skipping and hanging when recording in the multi track environment. first instrument is fine when recorded and playback but when you are going to record the next instrument and your going to playback the first instrument you recorded that's were the skipping and hanging goes. What do you think is the problem and what solution can you give me. Thanks guys.

Well, it sounds like a computer problem. Like RAM or speed or something. I am not sure though. Could you give us more information?

CEP skips and hangs if you don't give it enough time to process what you've just recorded. You don't *have* to wait for the little green rectangle to light up in the bottom left of the multitrack screen, but it helps.

If this isn't the problem, then my guess is Mastahnke's right, and it's your computer capacity. What's the size and speed of your computer?

One other possibility - CEP doesn't operate smoothly if there are other applications running in the background. One night my CD-RW drive was formatting a disk while I was recording, and the results was a track with dozens of clicks and pops. Shut down everything except CEP when you record. I heard you should even shut down your screen saver and your clock!

I don't know about the clock, but the screen saver for sure, as it causes CEP to hang.

Most likely it is possibly caused by several things ....

Buffers, try raising the samples per buffer setting.
Lack of available memory due to other things running in the background, 512 megs is a good starting point for RAM.
Slow single harddrive that can't sustain the throughput, thus giving drop outs or possibly in need of defraging. Dual harddrives with DMA enabled (one drive dedicated to the working directory for the Audio data the other for OS and programs) would be the ideal setup.
Poor audio drivers, see if there are any updated drivers for your soundcard.

These are just a few ideas that come to mind and unless you have a quite old and slow computer with very little resources, you shouldn't be having much trouble trying to record only two tracks.

Simple free things you can try are .... up the buffers, defrag the drive, make sure DMA is enabled on the IDE channel for the drive and check for any driver updates.

Would also be a good idea to post detailed info on your computer and hardware.
Computer specs ... not just the brand .... details
Operating system
Soundcard

Tooken - the thread you dug up was from 1999. If the guy hasn't solved his problem by now, it's okay.
