Question Use regular disks for 8 track recording

Hello to all!

I’m new to this board, and found it while I was looking for some answers.
Haven’t found them yet, but maybe I will now.
I own a Yamaha MD8, and the only problems I have with it are the data disks.

As it is difficult to find, and expensive to use data disks, I searched and found a way to use (old) regular 74 minutes minidisks for 8 track recording instead of data disks.
This works with some tricks and restrictions:
You will have to mount a switch.
You’ll need to “format” an empty disk by recording a long silence first.
Use one data disk right before you use the regular “formatted” disk and operate the switch.
Can’t name songs, and you only have one long recording.
It doesn’t work with the 80 minutes disks.

Did anyone find a way to use regular minidisks without the hassle?

It is about time that Yamaha lifts the restrictions and enables us to use regular disks for 8-track recording.
I bet that their machine would sell much better.
