Hello everyone.
![]() FORMAT>>>> These files are in 44/16. They are in both Wav and Aiff formats. SONG>>>> This is a song from my metal band. The song is quite heavy and should pose a good mixing challenge to even a veteran mixer. The tracking is done well on this song. If mixed properly, these tracks can yield a professional sounding result. RULES>>>>> 1. There will be no remixing of the given material. (that means what i give is what you get. Do not add/musically alter the material) 2. The download deadline will be 9/25/04. 3. The entries deadline will be 9/30/04. 4. The winner will be announced 10/7/04. 5. You may post more than one entry if you feel youve really improved your new mix. But dont go crazy with it. Our Mp3 host for these contests (Giles117) has a life, and im sure he intends to live it. JUDGE>>>>> The judging will once again be done by Bruce from Blue Bear Sound. He did a phenomenal job on mix contest #2, and im happy to say he's back to do it again. INFO>>>> Erik713 has been cool enough to offer up some 10" car sub speakers as a 1st place winners prize. Thanx Erik thats cool of you! ![]() But please keep in mind>> Your prize is what you learn, and the fun you can have learning it. But hey! Free speakers aint bad right?! NOTES>>>> Ok! ![]() Now that we've got all that stuff covered. I'd like to thank all of you for your participation in the last two contests! Every morning i come here before work to check these contest threads. I really dig how its turning into a positive thing. N'uff said. Lets MIX!! ![]() The files are on my download menu as... "Aiff files for mix contest #3"(sit) mac users go here. and "Wav files for mix contest #3"(zip) pc users go here. Click here to get them>>>www.geomana.com/~new_audio #3 is on! ![]() Last edited by xfinsterx; 09-04-2004 at 10:32.. |

hey, I can throw in a pair of 10" car subs to the winner. I've been trying to get rid of them for a while (upgraded half a year ago).

I will be sending 2 of these purple babies to the winner free of charge. If I win (hahaha), number 2 gets 'em. No box, just the drivers. MSRP - $109 a piece. Use 'em for indoor also!

Very clean production. Mix needs more dynamic range in my opinion

Hey Tekker -- you might want to compress your final mix a little bit so you can bring it up a tad

I wasn't really sure of how to mix this style of music so maybe someone could tell me if I'm even in the ballpark with this mix.

Too much reverb. Not enough guitars. Drums needed more weight. Id remix it with those things in mind. Ive got a good reference mix on my home page if you need a reference. www.geomana.com it's called #11. |

Good Experience
This is my first time mixing this style of music, but it was cool. Not sure if I had a possible client that wanted to hire my services to record something like this, that I would feel confident that I could do a good job with their performance. Im not sure I would take on the job. Anyways this was a great experience for me and I guess I would need to dl some other stuff to reference too but I just made it sound the way I thought it should sound.
The funny thing is I have a project I was working on prior to this for a gospel group. I felt like the lord was pulling me one way and devil the other. lol Seriously a very cool experience and wouldnt mind getting some more practice on this style to extend my skills. Problems I had with this was,,,,,,,,, tryin to find definition in the guitars, I just felt they sounded crowded, Im used to a more simpler sound. The vocals,,,,,,,,,, not having anything to reference too.... I wasnt sure how they should sound neither. But I figured the rough and raw sound was the way to go. A little compression to fatten them up. The snare after listening to it again I know I need to work on and can fix that no problem. People with experience with this style feel free to comment, if it sucks tell it does but tell me what sucks about it. Give me some reference groups to listen too also so I can get familiar with this style. Here ya go http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/...=/Mix+Contest3 |

Youre mix sounded good man. I coulda used more click in the kick and high end growl in the bass guitar personally. Imaging was a little monoish too. I liked the doubled vox here and there. |
