A good read about Don Leslie, and his speaker cabinets.
Although there are still no details, in the wake of Don Leslie's passing, on Friday, 3 September 2004 at the age of 93, here is something I've had bookmarked, concerning the "feud" between Mr. Leslie and Hammond organ inventor Laurens Hammond.
Compiled by Harvey Olsen, who personally knew Mr. Leslie, the piece is called 'Leslie Speakers and Hammond Organs: Rumors, Myths, Facts and Lore', and can be found at http://www.mitatechs.com/leslierumors.html For those who'd like to, there is an excellent compilation of Hammond organ models, and Leslie speaker models at http://www.theatreorgans.com/hammond...n-leslies.html Those who own Hammond organs, especially Hammond organ/Leslie speaker combos, and have an interest in the technical aspects of such instruments, there is the Hamtech List (Hamtech = Hammond Technical), which can be subscribed to by following the directions at http://www.hamtech.org/list.htm Although my 'Organs In Orbit' CD is in Jacksonville, FL, while I'm home on leave, I'm certainly going to be listening to it, upon my return, as my personal tribute to Don Leslie. For those of you that don't already know, it was Don Leslie, and his rotary speaker cabinets, that was responsible for what we call "the Hammond sound." Matt Lawrence
