new members music

Hi, This is my first posting on this forum, I'm a regular over at the AW16G forums, so no better way to start than posting some of my music. Hope you like.

The second song has been mixed pretty poorly but the idea is there, so any and all critic is more than welcome.

The equipment I use is

Yamaha FG acoustic
Rickenbacker 360
AW16G digital recorder
Boss drum machine
boss 700 effects rack (now replaced by a Vox Tonelab)

Many thanks for taking the time to listen.

the guitars are unbalanced volume wise.
Lopsided stereo field because of it.
Drums sound good.
More weight in the bass guitar please.
More bright in the vocals too would be nice.
Do these things and i think your mix will be all the better for it.

Good day.

Pretty good Matt. Mr Finster's right about the lopsided stereo field, which to my ears extended to the drums, but nicely done otherwise.

I felt that the song could use some work - it lacks in light and shade, it's a good sound but changes little and even when there is movement (like when the vocal harmonies come in) there's not much of it.

Just my thoughts. Nice to see more Brits around here.

Garry

Thanks for your comments guys, though Im unsure what you both mean by the stereo field?? Is it just a case of where the guitars are panned, volume or a touch of reverb here and there to layer it a bit more?? as obvioulsy not all things have to be at the same level. My main influence, as far as mixing goes, are bands like Big Star and The Beatles use of stereo and both bands mix somewhat disorginised. Any tips would be more than welcome.

Thanks
Matt

Well, what I (and I guess Mr Finster) meant was that if you sit in the midde of a monitor pair the centre of the music doesn't seem to be in the middle. If that's what you want, then fine, go for it, just be aware of the slightly disconcering effect it has on listeners coming to it from scratch. It's probably less noticeable on a typical home hi-fi setup where stereo imaging is often pretty ropey anyway.
