I voted for "other" because i think Britt Walford's drumming is the best i've ever heard. There's just something about the way he plays that blows my mind every single time i hear it. Example - "Good Morning, Captain" by Slint.

From your list, however, Bonham's da man!

Please, not again

If you want to talk about favorites or who influenced you, fine, but how can anyone honestly say who is "the best"? Too often we compare apples to oranges.

i was going to say at the beginning, i think it is a good idea if people remember that the title "greatest" can only be an opinion that can not be argued.

Well your vote is your view and it could be anybody. This isn't to say That whoever is the best at everything there is no arguing. It's a jazzy little topic, which everyone has a right to an opinion. It's really an all around drummer poll cause Bozzio really isn't rock (right now) he's more of jazz or something... I'm not even sure. Sorry about Neil spelling error...it was early in the morning. I hope you see where I'm going with this... Just wanted to see what people thought. Cause me and my friend had an arguement on who was better Neil Peart or Bonham. I didn't want to have the poll only be 2 drummers so expanded it and included drummers i liked. I'm into progressive rock so i threw in a bunch of progressive drummers. Who can vote for whomever you want even if they are in metal of jazz or fusion or what-have you..Think of this as your best/favorite drummer. Hope that clarify's things

Dave Weckl (no 'e' on the end) is as amazing live as he is on record.
Chad Wackerman is pretty awesome, too. Appropriate last name!
Bill Bruford
Jerry Marotta
Billy Cobham
Chester Thompson
Rayford Griffin
Steve Smith
Terry Bozzio is a human octopus!
Tim "Herb" Alexander
Fish (from Fishbone)

Oh, geez, am I supposed to pick just one? It can't be done!

Well I'm not sure if maybe talked about so far could be thought as the greatest drummer in the world.

Steve Smith is pretty sweet what that left hand going 24/7
Billy Cobham aint bad at all
Bozzio is a great player
Thamas Lang is getting up their
Steve Haas sounds really good
Dennis Chambers is a funky man
David Garibaldi is the funk master
I watched mike portnoys dvd and from what I see didn't impress me.
Now on to the meat and potatos

Virgil Danati isn't even human anymore
Vinnie Calouita is a groovy beast
Steve Gadd is a great player
Weckl can lay down some tasteful notes but not much of a pocket player
Buddy Rich is the man at having control over the band period.

Wanna see some good stuff? Go here Their is some GREAT drumming on their.

Here are some of my fav videos from their

The best drummer of all time is Gary Ainge. End of story. No arguments will be tolerated

My personal favorite is Neil Peart, I'm hypnotized by the live drum solo "The Rhythm Method" from the Different Stages album. I never heard a drum solo sound like acual music before I heard this.

I have to agree that a "greatest of all time" is too broad and too subjective.

I've often felt "who influenced you"? is a better question than "who is the best? If I had to list the drummers that most influenced me

Buddy Rich - Incredible technique
Steve Gadd - Extremely tasteful - great grooves
Neil Peart - Very musical drummer
John Bonham - Huge sound, solid rocker
Stuart Copeland - Unique appoach
Keith Moon - Very aggressive drummer - made excess acceptable

I've always thought we can learn something from every musician!

Travis Barker isn't bad. Steve Smith as someone posted above is amaizing. FLdrummer did you watch Liquid Drum Theater... I admit Portnoy isn't The best (to me) but he is pretty damn good. Nobody mentioned Joe Franco either...He talks funny but after watching his double bass video i was in awe. His combinations are crazy. Bonham is still the man though...ahahahah he kept that hi-hat going no matter what. That's hard to do. Danny Carrey is really good I love tool.
